Electronic dance music, aka EDM, was originally designed to be played in smaller venues, like nightclubs. Heavy on percussion, the music is the purview of DJs. Well, the times they are a changin'. EDM has taken off big-time and can now be enjoyed at large concerts and festivals around the country and around the world. These super-sized versions are strong on video and lighting along with plenty of wild outfits and, of course, the DJs themselves who have become celebrities in their own right. One of the most popular EDM events is the Electric Zoo Festival in New York City. Getting underway on Friday, August 29 and running through Sunday, August 31, the 2014 edition will once again take place on Randall's Island, which delivers great views of the East River.
Of course, the music is what the Electric Zoo Festival is all about. And it will not disappoint. There are nearly 100 performers on the bill and each and every one of them will have you dancing the day and night away. Some of the DJs and performers include Arty, Dubfire, Morgan Page, Bingo Players, Caked Up, Audien, Dirty South, Brillz, Destroid, Moti, ATB, Heroes x Villains, Been Trill, Myron & Shane 84, Deniz Koyu, Bonobo, Hook N Sling, Firebeatz and Borgeous. The Electric Zoo Festival is so popular that for the first time in its five-year existence, there was a version of it in Mexico City earlier this year.
